England's Head Coach Claims Top Talents Don't Always Make Up the Best Team

Thomas Tuchel has stated that putting together the highest-profile footballers is no assurance of building the most effective team unit. He hinted regardless of whether Jude Bellingham were fully fit following his shoulder problem, the player could still have been omitted from the latest England squad.

Focus on Team Spirit

The Three Lions' manager also indicated that Bukayo Saka's return might not have occurred had his fellow Arsenal player the injured winger remained fit. The coach has put significant emphasis on squad unity in his selection for the forthcoming friendly against Wales and World Cup qualifier in Latvia.

"We're building the strongest squad," said the England boss, who challenged the conventional wisdom that championship teams typically choose their top forwards.

Proven Success

Tuchel pointed to the positive energy during last month's campaign where the national team defeated Andorra and excelled against the Serbian team without Bellingham. Tuchel observed no reason to alter the group dynamic which delivered those impressive performances.

  • Bellingham left out despite Real Madrid return
  • Foden not included despite improved form
  • Jack Grealish also missed out

Physical Condition Factors

While Tuchel partially attributed Bellingham's absence due to physical condition, he recognized that the midfielder wanted to be included during their conversation. Tuchel had earlier apologized to Bellingham for remarks about his on-field conduct.

"Would you agree that behavior on the bench, support from training, and team togetherness enables the starting eleven to perform to their potential?" Tuchel asked.

Squad Selection Justification

The coach stressed that his selections weren't individual against any player but instead rewarded those who had delivered in the last campaign.

"What would be my explanation dropping them and still be credible in my words?" Tuchel asked.

Necessary Adjustments

The only change in selection was compulsory with the unfit Madueke making way for the recovered Saka. Tuchel clarified that even Saka might have missed out had Madueke stayed healthy.

Additional omissions featured Chelsea's attacking midfielder, who remains to struggle with injury problems. Given just two additional gatherings prior to the tournament, opportunities are diminishing for certain individuals to prove themselves.

World Cup Scheduling Concerns

Tuchel expressed his desire for England's World Cup games to start later because of temperature worries in North America. Tuchel recognized this would create watching problems for English fans but maintained player welfare remains the priority.

"I know supporters will not like it but for the team it's preferable with later kickoffs," he stated. "Our athletes are the game and we must safeguard them."
